CJSW-FM: Cavan Logan – Sun Ramen
Broth, Toppings, and Noodles. That’s all you need for a delicious bowl of Sun Ramen. Host Cavan Logan has cooked up one of the best recipes for kicking off the day. One hour of “broth” or funk and soul to kick things off, hour 2 brings the “toppings” or beats, and slurp up some “noodles” or rap for the last hour. Cavan is an incredible DJ dedicated to showing the breadth of new hip-hop, the producers that back them, and the genres that influenced it all. He makes a strong effort to highlight underrepresented artists and provide meaningful information about his selections, all the while keeping the tone light and engaging. What results is a show that fills up your mind, body, and soul.

CJSW-FM: Fiona Marcetto, Simon MacLeod – Wednesday Night Classical on CJSW
The CJSW Wednesday Night block has been home to 2 of the station’s premier classical music shows, Classicool and iNTaNGiBiLiTy.
Classicool, hosted by Fiona Marcetto, a 16-year-old violinist with the Youth Orchestra of Calgary, provides an accessible yet informative take on the Classical genre. Bringing her rich knowledge of compositions and her passion for orchestral music, Fiona teaches the listeners about the greats, without getting too pretentious. While other hosts fill their programs with dense amounts of high-level information, Fiona brings the access gate to anyone. Classicool demonstrates classical music is truly for everyone.
iNTaNGiBiLiTy has a big job following suit, but does so exquisitely. Canadian contemporary compositions are thrust into the spotlight by host Simon MacLeod. Through series of interviews, combing through selections, and his own experience as a musician and working with the Canadian Music Centre, Simon braves the experimental side of things and brings exposure to the best and brightest up-and-coming composers. Together, these two bring the listener in, engage and excite their musical palate, and open them up to music they may not have explored before.

This show has afforded me the opportunity to interview & work with many stalwarts of the blues music industry such as John Mayall, Myles Goodwyn, Sonnie Bernardi, Paul Deslauriers as well as most of the artistic directors of many of the Blues Festivals in Ontario. Being involved behind the scenes has also allowed me to be involved in the promotion of several events as well as the opportunity to be the MC at some of these shows.
