CFRC FM - The Corridor - Kingston and Area Regional News (Dinah Jansen and Jesse Bell)
I am the CFRC Executive Director and host of The Corridor-Kingston and Area Local and Regional News. I have been broadcasting for 19 years and working with my team to build our local news desk for the last four years.
The Corridor features news stories created by Local Journalism Initiative reporters in Kingston and area including CFRC’s own Chris Lawrie with contributions from CJAI Amherst Island Radio, County FM in Picton, CFWN FM in Cobourg plus LJI print media journalists from The Kingstonist, YGK News, and the Brockville Recorder and Times. The Corridor broadcasts Thursdays at 5 PM EST on CFRC's terrestrial signal 101.9 FM and can be streamed at cfrc.ca. It is also podcasted via Spotify and Apple Music. The Corridor has been made possible by our team of staff and volunteers, the Community Radio Fund of Canada, the Local Journalism Initiative, the Queen's University Department of History Internship Program, Queen's University Career Services, and of course our donors. Hosted by Dinah Jansen, Executive Director, Radio Queen's University and produced by Jesse Bell.
In this episode we have submitted, CFRC’s Local Journalism Initiative Reporter, Christena Lawrie provides a breakdown of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce City Council Report Card. Then, Local Journalism Initiative News Producer, Jesse Bell reads a report on proposed austerity measures at Queen’s University from from LJI Reporter Owen Fullerton of YGK News followed by Brockville Times & Recorder LJI Reporter, Keith Dempsey on proposed affordable housing developments in the region. Dinah Jansen then reads Kingstonist.com's LJI Reporter Michelle Dorey-Forestell's report on the recent forgiveness of an abnormally high water bill for the St. Mary Magdalene Church.
Though not included in the submission, the full broadcast also includes an audio report by CJAI FM LJI Reporter Ted Evans on Livestock Valuers and the installation of Flowerpots in the Loyalist Area. CJPE FM LJI Reporters Craig Foster and Brenda Little follow with reports related to Transportation Issues in Prince Edward County, and developments at a Town Council meeting. Finally, each episode of the Corridor also features the regional weather forecast, traffic report and community events calendar.
