2025 Best in Podcasting

Congratulations –

CJTM (Met Radio) - Mulberries (Yasaman Mansoori and Sean Warkentine)

Yasaman Mansoori is an artist and "audio maker", who writes and produces That Intimate Feeling, an audio art podcast, also broadcasting on Met Radio 1280 AM in Toronto. Yasaman is currently living in New York, working towards her Master's in Fine Art.

An Ant And An Atom, the musical project of Sean Warkentine from Toronto, has been exploring sonic boundaries for more than a decade, melding gentle ambience and harsh noise. Sean is the Program Director and has been filling in as interim Station Manager over the past year at Met Radio (CJTM).

Together in 2023, Yasaman and Sean wrote, composed, and performed a piece, titled "Mulberries," which they presented as spoken word with accompanying sound effects and music. The piece was performed at an evening of live collaborative literary and sonic exploration that they organized together, titled Deluge. The theme for the night was set around the topic of drowning, which other participants and performers were welcomed to interpret as they pleased. Notably, to adhere to the thematic limitations of the event, An Ant And An Atom designed and composed the music and sound effects in "Mulberries" from recordings of sounds pertaining to water.

In the year following that performance, they refined the music and recordings into an episode of That Intimate Feeling. The result is an emotionally-charged 25-minute cinematic story separated into 5 distinct chapters, which tell the tale of an expressive uninhibited young Lebanese woman at the turn of the 20th century, a time when factories around Mount Lebanon were supplying France with the prized textile. The music complements the story, utilizing ambience that eventually follows the character into an industrial noise drone leading to a sudden end.
